Love from Solana Beach

An Initiative of the Books & Blooms Little Free Library

Let’s support our Solana Beach neighbors who could use some well-wishes! Locals of all ages are invited to join us in dropping off notes and drawings offering encouragement to make someone’s day a little bit brighter. Now through September 5th, we are collecting well-wishes for Solana Beach local, Jason Portlock, who has been courageously battling cancer. Please see his story below. No note is too short to include.

Drop off Location: The Books & Blooms Little Free Library Love Box at 703 N. Rios Ave., Solana Beach, CA 92075

Jason has been a resident of Solana Beach for over 15 years, but his connection to San Diego runs deep. Born and raised in SD, he grew up surfing the waves of South Mission Beach and graduated from Mission Bay High School. Jason is a third-generation Over-The-Line (OTL) player and has always been active, loving the outdoors.

On March 11, 2024, Jason went to the ER for what he thought was a kidney stone, only to receive a cancer diagnosis. Since then, he has endured four rounds of intensive chemotherapy, many nights in the hospital, and a significant weight loss of 100 lbs. Despite the challenges, Jason’s resilience and spirit have remained unbreakable. He will soon undergo surgery to remove the tumor, and while the journey ahead will be tough, we are all hopeful for his full recovery.
