Flowers I Grew & Gave Away in 2022
I know the year isn’t over yet, but I thought it would be fun to share the cut flowers I grew in the garden in 2022. Below are the main flowers I planted with asterisks next to the ones that were my favorites. My main sources for seeds were Johnny’s Seeds and Floret. I’ve also included the symbolism for each flower. The meanings below are a combination of the symbols from many different cultures, including the Victorian language of flowers.
Snapdragons* - Meaning: Strength
Sweet Peas* - Meaning: Departure
Ranunculus* - Meaning: Charm
Anemones - Meaning: Anticipation
Amaranth - Meaning: Beauty
Bachelor’s Buttons - Meaning: Growth
Nigella - Meaning: Harmony
Dara* - Meaning: Sanctuary
Zinnias - Meaning: Friendship
Cosmos* - Meaning: Harmony
Scabiosa* - Meaning: Warmth
Dahlias* - Meaning: Creativity
Strawflowers* - Meaning: Immortality
Sunflowers* - Meaning: Health
Hydrangeas - Meaning: Gratitude
Roses* - Meaning: Love
Yarrow* - Meaning: Healing
Statice - Meaning: Remembrance
Feverfew* - Meaning: Health

Next year, I’m going to grow many of the same that I did this year and also add in more California Native cut flowers and a few Iris varieties.
Giving Away Garden Bouquets
I gave myself a goal of giving away 50 garden bouquets in 2022 and am thrilled to say that I’ve doubled my goal and have given away over 100 bouquets straight from my garden as I write this in October. It’s been such a joyful experience to give them away to many people including:
Neighbors
Family and friends
Seniors at the local seniors center and nearby homes
Nurses
People who are ill
People who are grieving
Here are a few of my favorite garden bouquets. It’s fun to see how they change as the flowers come and go based on the season:
